Why: Incidental sun exposure happens even if you’re indoor near a window, in a moving car or in a train. So do not underestimate your sunscreen application. One of the major causes of dry skin for Australian women is UVA damage (hello fine lines, wrinkles, premature ageing!) from incidental sun exposure. You can get burned during Summer with as little as 15 minutes. Did you know that UVB rays can cause skin cancer, sunburn and even cataracts?
What: Vaseline ‘skin saver’ squads will blitz Melbourne to help protect women + men and their skin this summer. The ‘all male’ squad (ahem! My source tells me they will be shirtless) will be out with umbrellas and free full sized bottles of Vaseline Aloe Fresh Lotion with SPF 15 to fight incidental sun exposure.
When: 1st December 2011, Friday 11am – 2pm
Where: Southern Cross Station
Why I love it:Â
- Those of you who have fine/flat hair who couldn’t use Moroccanoil hair products previously due to the richness and thickness of the products, you’ll love that Moroccanoil released the Extra Volume range
- Still infused with Moroccanoil trademark nourishing and hair loving ingredients; minus the richness and the ‘heavy/creamy’ feeling
- Shampoo lathers really well for my double cleanse and the conditioner instantly de-tangles my mob
- Additionally, the rinse off is noticeably quicker and the results is clean, soft, de-tangled hair minus any heaviness
- Great option if you have oily roots and dry hair end bits like I do, you’ll benefit from the lightness of the shampoo and nourishing bits for the end bits.

Couple of months ago, ghd Style (new website to boot!) released their hair products with new packaging. This time the packaging is sleeker than before and they matches their iconic black and gold hair straighteners.
- Root Lift Spray (on wet hair – instant lift combined with blow dry)
- Heat Protect Spray (a must before all heat styling)
- Final Shine Spray (my chemically dyed hair often requires some sort of shine spray post heat styling to fake the ‘healthy’ look)
When one think of Chanel beauty, make up and iconic nail polish shades naturally comes to mind. As a skin care fiend, my love for Chanel skincare dates back to 2008. Not many people know this but Chanel much like their luxury goods and make up products; pour years of research and testing into their skincare products.
Their latest’s Sublimage Essential Comfort Cleanser is a clear winner. Don’t be duped by the name it is actually a make up remover for both face and eyes (yeap even the toughest of all eye make up residues). Made in France with camellia kissi seed oil (derived from Chanel’s iconic Camellia flowers), hydrophilic, glycerin, jojoba seed oil this oil based gel-like cleanser goes onto skin quite thickly.
Once massaged all over face, the silky oil spreads through evenly. Next, I warm up a cotton cloth (comes with purchase, score!) and press all over face and  gently exfoliate in circular movements to remove residues. The experience is very comforting and almost felt like a mini facial.
Utilising sugar derivatives, this cleanser gently dissolve make up and gives skin a supply, radiant and squeaky clean. Oh and let’s not forget about the scent – ah the scent, it is a mixture of delicate green scent of linden, sweet floral scents of lily of the valley, cyclamen and violet and a woody, powdery and vanilla notes finish. Definitely a sensory experience while cleansing the face.
The cleanser also comes in a big tube (props for the packaging) and makes the cost per use actually very affordable as you truly only need very little each use. Although it is oil based, this cleanser is non comedogenic so it’s safe to use even if you have oily skin.

Alpha H has been a brand that’s been on many people’s lips for the past couple of years. Today, their best selling Liquid Gold has spun into a full range of complimentary skin care products for the skin. At the recent ABBW, I got to bring home the much raved about Liquid Gold Skin Perfecting System. For a detailed how-to apply these product please read here.
The Skin Perfecting System is designed to remove surface skin cell and boost the renewal of skin by using a cocktail of glycolic acid, herbal extracts, antioxidants and enzymes. The ability for this program to be added to ANY existing skincare routine hooked me in.
My experiences:
- I find the whole system quite confusing at the beginning as it was hard to not follow the “toner, serum, moisturiser” rule. My brain being so used to one step after another, was struggling to understand Prep and Prime and Liquid Gold Original was sufficient for my cleanse skin.
- But once reading the detailed how-to from Alpha H’s facebook page, I had a clear idea of what to do and followed through, using Prep and Prime after cleansed skin day and night. During day, I’ll continue with my serum>moisturiser>sunscreen and for night, I’ll use Liquid Gold Original post Prep and Prime.
- Texture wise, both products are extremely watery with a slight sticky texture after. Products absorbs into my skin rapidly without leaving any residue. My skin did felt a little dry/tight the first week using this but after awhile it got use to the ‘lack of moisturising’ step at night.
- I didn’t find the glycolic acid products gave my skin much of a tingling sensation or any visual reactions.
- After just a couple weeks of use of Prep and Prime + Liquid Gold Original, Â I find my skin looks visibly brighter, skin appear more refined and visually less dull/uneven looking.
If you want brighter/remove dullness/refined/evening out skin tone, I highly recommend the Liquid Gold Skin Perfecting System.
Note: Due to a few skin care treatments (laser, peels, intense enzymes), I was not able to trial the Liquid Gold Radiance as yet.
Left: #407 Blazing Gold, Right: #417 Beige Lame
Why I love it:Â
- Luxe, sturdy packaging that is easy to open
- Each eye shadow shade comes with a sponge tip applicator (which is my favourite way of applying eye shadow)
- Both powder shades are really soft to touch and is easy to apply
- Can be used wet or dry (I am lazy so I’ve always stick with dry application)
- #407 Blazing Gold – is a very sheer shade with a very faint hint of gold sparkle, you probably won’t get much of a colour pay off from this colour unless using wet application. Personally, I use this as a base/overall shade all over the lid to brighten my eye area.
- #417 Beige Lame (Limited Edition) - A gorgeous everyday shade with a hint of sparkle that is guaranteed to make any lady feel special. The colour is quite pigmented and is a cross between beige and brown with a hint of shimmer. The finish is a sophisticated understated but beautiful shade. I am currently obsessed with this shade and wear it a minimum of 3-4 times a week. It is a the eye shadow I wore to the recent MBBE 2011. This is a shade that will guarantee to break my heart since it is limited edition and when they do discontinue this I’d cry myself to bed when I run out of this eye shadow. Definitely a HG eye shadow shade for me and I am stocking this one up for sure.
RRP AUD$44 each
