Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate & Midnight Recovery Eye

I have heard plenty of raving regarding Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate for the longest time. Now that they’ve launched a matching Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eyes; I thought it is high time I trial them both now. To be honest, I have not trial that many Kiehl’s products that made me fell head over heels for. I have the mentality of the more potent it is the better it is; hence I haven’t been much of a fan for organic, natural products.

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate

RRP AUD$59

My experience with Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate came along very timely. About the time I had to undergo a laser treatment. Needless to say, leading up to the laser I was using this as my serum/moisturiser every night. Since most of the ingredients were derived from natural ingredients (pure essential oils and distilled botanicals) they were great for prepping my skin for the laser and my skin post laser. This replenishing concentrate is lightweight, only required a few drops for full face application. I usually drop 3-5 drops on my palm warm it up a little and gently pat and press all over my face and neck area. Love the dropper packaging as it makes the serum easy for dispensing as well.

It is recommended to use as a serum and finish with a moisturiser but since I have fairly oily skin, I went with the serum step only and did not suffer any signs of tightness or dryness. In the morning, I find my skin soft and smooth with no signs of oiliness around my face at all. As this serum is designed to boost moisture, I’d highly recommend this for all skin types that are suffering from skin dryness. I am happy to report that my oily skin did not break out from this either.

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye

RRP AUD$44

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eyes is the new product from Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery product range. Designed as a restorative night treatment for the eyes so that you can wake up to fresher, puffiness and younger looking eyes in the morning. While I can’t vow for the younger looking eyes effect, I did however woke up to softer, less puffy and more supple under eyes.

All you really need is a tiny 1-2 drops of the eye cream and gently pat under eyes and along the orbital bones. I usually incorporate some gentle massage to ensure the eye cream absorb thoroughly and quickly. I am also happy to report that I didn’t get any milia around the eye area while using this.

All products are paraben free, fragrance free and mineral oil free

Garnier Fructis Anti Dandruff Shampoo Range

Recently, Garnier Fructis released a range of Anti Dandruff shampoos designed for all types of scalp conditions (from left to right):

  • Fructis Anti Dandruff Sensitive – relieves itching, irritation and redness of the scalp
  • Fructis Anti-Dandruff Scrub – infused with micro-beads to gently exfoliate the scalp for an ultra clean sensation
  • Fructis Anti-Dandruff Normal – improves the balance in the scalp’s cellular turnover and restore protective barrier function
  • Fructis Anti-Dandruff Fall Fight – inject hair with vitality and strength and help protect breakage and hair fall
  • Fructis Anti-Dandruff Citrus Detox – designed for oily hair purifies scalp to eliminate excess sebum

I have extremely oily hair and occasionally itchy scalp that flakes (if I leave it for too long without washing it). As a result, I have no choice but to wash my hair on a daily basis. I find Garnier Fructis to be a little drying on my scalp if I use it daily, hence I use these as my ‘treatment’ shampoo rotating each time depending on my hair/scalp condition.

Lately with the warmer months, I really like using the Citrux Detox and Scrub shampoos using each at a time once a week. All you need is to use very little at a time to target root area and massaging throughout the scalp and using another standard shampoo to double cleanse. By using the Garnier Fructis shampoo range, I find that I can go with washing my hair once very two days (a huge improvement, I must say so myself).

If you have problematic scalp, I strongly recommend to give this range a go!

Ella Bache Serum Antiase

Ah, those French people can do no wrong in fashion and throughout years of trialling and sampling products, I believe this can be applied for skincare too. Most of my all time favourite products comes from French companies like Ella Bache, Guinot, Clarins, Sisley & Chanel and boy do they deliver.

Ella Bache Serum Antiase also known as Ella Bache Balancing Serum is a product from their classic skincare range designed to deliver what it promises – balances out your skin by restoring skin’s natural pH. Our skin changes overtime and all the time due to our diet and lifestyle, hence it is crucial to take that into consideration and to apply appropriate skincare products to help ease the transition. Ella Bache Serum Antiase is lightweight, feels like water and comes in a convenient pump bottle packaging. It is recommended 2-3 pumps day and night for a thorough application, however I find 2 pumps is sufficient for both face/neck coverage.

What does this Balancing Serum do you ask? Well, by balancing skin’s natural pH level, it helps with controlling those nasty breakout by increasing skin’s natural resistance to bacteria and infection. Le garçon was suffering from one of those nasty breakout and horrendously oily skin for awhile due to his change of lifestyle and diet (I have been requesting him to get monthly chemical peels to no avail). I got him onto the Balancing Serum and boy did it stopped 80% of those annoying breakout and skin appears to be less oily by 70%. These are amazing figures coming from a beauty blogger who is quite unfazed by many things at this point of my life.

Ella Bache Serum Antiase is high in Vitamin C (which we all know improves skin texture, brightness, potent antioxidant and delivers hydration)  so it also helped with diminishing le garçon’s acne scarring and mine too! Needless to say, both of us using this day and night resulting it lasting barely a month for us.

Personally, I find the smell of this product a little too sterile (like alcohol) but did not suffer any adverse results from it. Apart from the smell, this watery, hydrating and balancing serum is a welcoming comfort during those hot Summer days. I used this as my serum/moisturiser two in one because it balances out my skin without leaving it dry or screaming for moisturiser.

RRP AUD$69 (30ml)

Xtreme Lashes Amplif Eye

I can’t live a day without lash strengthening product (if you don’t know this already, I am quite the fan of Rapid Lash). So when Xtreme Lashes sent me one for Christmas 2011, I was beyond excited. I love using lash strengthening products because it prevents my existing sparse lashes from breaking or falling off prematurely since I curl and apply mascara faithfully everyday.

After one and a half months of trialling Xtreme Lashes Amplif Eye (RRP AUD$129), I find this lash enhancing product a lot less watery than the rest that I have tested. Each application, the brush only picks up the tiniest amount of product. I usually use 3 coats on each eyes applying it like you would much like an eye liner.

As I am already actively using lash enhancing products, I didn’t see a huge difference to my lashes. However, I did find my lashes stayed long and healthy without any premature breakage or excessive fall out like it used to whenever I remove my eye makeup. Another thing I would love to mention is that it doesn’t darken my eye area like the others lash strengthening products did (which is also a common side effect from lash strengthening product).

If you are in the market for some lash lovin’ product, I’d highly recommend Xtreme Lashes’. It is also great for when you have lash extension on and is safe for sensitive eyes.
