When it comes to lightweight foundation, you can’t go past mousse based foundation and when I am thinking of mousse foundation, Maybelline’s Dream Matte Mousse Foundation comes to mind. My history with Maybelline’s mousse foundation goes way back to some 13 years ago back in Malaysia and yes I am that old.

You see coming from a tropical country and having oily skin 24/7, I was on a mission to suss out every single oil controlling foundation available in the market that doesn’t feels heavy on the skin and most importantly provides adequate coverage. I can still remember the packaging was exactly the same except for a green lid and guess what?

After years and years of dedication to that foundation in my teenage years, I found Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation here in Melbourne too as it is currently the #1 matte foundation in Australia with its unique non-cakey formula. There are a total of 8 shades available to choose from and I am #2 Classic Ivory Light.

Look at the foundation! Doesn’t it remind you of chocolate mousse? Well except you should know that you can’t eat this. Don’t let the textured looking mousse scare you, the airy formula feels almost like nothing on my skin and it blends effortlessly.

To apply, I smear a tiny blob of the Dream Matte Mousse foundation with my fingers. When it comes to mousse foundation, a little goes a long way, you don’t need too much otherwise it defies the purpose for a flawless and natural finish. This blob here you see is sufficient for full face application for me.

Yikes! My bare skin (I cheated with some eye makeup). As you can see, apply the mousse all over the face inwards out and paying extra attention to areas that needs a bit more coverage. The whole process took less than 2 minutes to finish because I didn’t need to wait for it to dry. This foundation applies effortlessly and I didn’t even need to blend too hard.

Tadaa! This is the money shot – Before and After. Pay attention to the before picture, spot the red, angry pimple, dark eye circle, redness around nose and mouth. ALL GONE! They were all covered by Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse without any help of concealer. Crazy huh?

Brownie points for a foundation that can cover “redness” and spots so well too as I dare say not many foundations in the market can deliver lightweight finish and have redness coverage at the same time.

Just one step, Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse and I am done, no need for concealer, setting powder, etc. Getting ready in the mornings are so easy for me now, takes me two minutes and I am done with foundation step.

For the purpose of this post I did not apply any blush so you can see the true representation of this foundation. The finish is matte and powdery and best of all it stays on my skin all day long with no signs of smudging even during warmer days.

Writing this post brought back so much memories and I am surprised that the foundation that I love and swear by when I was 16 is still awesome 13 years on. One word of advice, as this is a mattifying foundation, be sure to moisturise and protect your skin with sunscreen prior foundation application.

The ideal matte foundation must be
Of the highest performance, and quality
Durable enough to last the day
Whether I’m at work, or at play
A flawless finish, that’s smooth and sheer
To leave my skin looking fresh and clear!!

The ideal matte foundation for me doesn’t cake on dry patches, and leaves my skin enough space to breathe but negates the need for heavy powders or too many touch ups during the day. Most of all it looks classic and goes with all of my makeup looks, so I always look polished and matte.

Mousse is my favourite. Excellent for coverage on an oily face like mine. I like my foundation to feel light on the skin and looking natural on my face. I like it to stay fresh all day without caking.

I am a huge fan of matte foundations that go on without much evidence that you’re wearing make-up at all. A more natural look makes for a more beautiful one.

The perfect foundation must be light, not cakey, spread smoothly and evenly, be matte, not shiny, last for hours, not minutes and look like I’m wearing nothing at all :)

Price is a big factor – Maybelline is a great price point for me.
Plus it needs to be the perfect colour for my skin (too many years of orange streaks on my jawline)
And it needs to provide good coverage of the odd spot.
    Thanks!
