“My Love From the Stars” is by far the best Korean drama I have watched and I am currently obsessed with it. For those who are unaware, MLFTS took the world by storm and pretty much all of my Asian friend either have watched it or knows someone who does.
Reason why this drama has taken the world (Yes, world! I am not exaggerating at all, exclamation mark worthy excitement voice!) is because the set this drama is based around took USD $1 million to build and heaps of rare artefacts were featured in this romcom drama series.
In addition, both the male and female protagonist wore the latest couture fashion think Gucci sleepwear for PJs, Chanel S/S 2014 outfits decked from head to toe, Chloe, Balmain, Prada, Miu Miu, Valentino, Alexander McQueen, Burberry, Celine, Ralph Lauren, LV, etc; you name it they’d wear it.
Fashion pieces + accessories alone is worth the 21 episodes of your time. There is even a blog that dedicates to every single outfit breakdown by episodes via Korean Drama Fashion.
More importantly, Cheon Song Yi (female protagonist) played by Gianna Jun Ji Hyun who plays Korea’s national goddess also wears an impressive lipstick collection. So much so that every single lipstick that she wears in the series is almost a guaranteed sold out item. She also made the infamous YSL Pur Couture #52 sold out worldwide, crazy sellers are selling these triple the retail price on eBay no less.
Heck I even get influenced by the drama and had Korean fried chicken for 4 weeks in a row, if you are based in Melbourne, you must try the Korean fried chicken at Gami.
Last week, YSL’s PR team here in Australia told me someone walked into duty free Melbourne and bought 60, yes 60 tubes of YSL lipsticks in #52. Save to say this lipstick will probably be sold out for a very long time with hundreds of people currently on the waiting list, yes WAITING LIST for a tube of lipstick! If that is not proof of how successful this drama is worldwide, I don’t know what is.
FYI – Earlier this week, I covered Cheon Song Yi’s lipstick inspirations on this YSL Gloss Volupte post too.
ANYWAY, this is probably the longest post opening ever – thanks to MLFTS, I am now all over Korean make up like a rash but where do one begin? I thought I should share with you some of my Korean make up experiences and some that I intend to trial thanks to Cheon Song Yi.
Here is the list of Korean make up products that was featured in My Love From The Stars (Credits to Styleinflunce.net who interviewed Son Dae Shik – makeup artist to the series). I have been told that Koreans are very patriotic hence they feature Korean branded make up heavily, can’t say the same for fashion though.
One word of advice – don’t attempt to look for them as they are all sold out and severely back logged:
- IOPE Perfection Mascara
- IOPE Color Fit Lipstick #23 Violet Pink, #17 Cherry Blossom, #18 Classic Red
- IOPE Water Fit Lipstick #44
- Laneige Serum Intense Lipstick #YR25 Neon Orange
- Forencos Romantic Scandal #517
- Forencos Longlasting 14 Waterproof Eyeliner #No1
Some of my favourite Korean make up products that I have reviewed in the past:
- Skinfood Mushroom BB cream
- The History of Whoo Luxury BB cream
- 3CE 3 Concept Eye Make up
- I have also tried some from The Face Shop, Etude House, Tony Moly but nothing really impressed me off my boots.
Clearly, I haven’t ventured into the Korean make up market as much as I’d like and apart from the above-mentioned wishlist of make up products featured in the drama, I intend to suss out brands like HERA, Laneige, Sulwhasoo, CLIO and IOPE more as they are all reputable brands and is generally a great starting point to look for good quality make up products from Korea.
Have you tried Korean make up? What are your favourites?
