Back in 2012, YSL pretty much took over my make up world with their amazing Glossy Stains release. I immediately snatched up a few too many shades and swore by the shade #15 and cleaned up two tubes of those, yeap I did. That was also “the” lip gloss product that got me into using lip glosses, it was THAT life changing.
So when I heard whispers of YSL launching a new lip gloss, I was ready, keen and eager to embrace the new collection. Say bonjour to the new YSL Gloss Volupte. All in all, there will be 24 shades to choose from this collection and 3 different type of shine levels.
Gloss Volupte is the latest to join the Volupte family and this gloss contains a revolutionary luscious nectar formula that provides high shine. If you are familiar of the Rouge Volupte, you’ll know that it is super high in pigment and is not for the faint hearted.
In addition, there’s also the options of Rouge Volupte Candy and Rouge Volupte Shine.
Left to right: #19 – Rose Orfevre | #104 – Prune Organdi | #206 – Fuchsia Oran |
Texture wise, these are lightweight, yet wet and glossy. They are creamy to spread across lip with YSL patented kiss shaped applicator. I love how moisturising it feels on my lips without ever drying my lips. They also have the ability to hide even the dries of lips.
Due to the way the applicator is shaped, it picks up quite a bit of gloss, making it easy to do a full lip application without having to re-dip the applicator for one application. I like the design of the applicator and think that it is pretty cute too.
The wider applicator tip design means touch up is quicker and less hassle. If you are a hygiene freak, you’ll love this because you can do a full lip application in one go and can wipe down the tip before putting it back to the tube.
Top to bottom: #104 – Prune Organdi | #206 – Fuchsia Oran | #19 – Rose Orfevre
As you can see from the swatch above, the finish is glossy and they have an iridescent shimmer to it which adds a shiny and glittery finish. They are all fruity scented and is pretty much your usual YSL’s signature mango scent.
Noticeably, the glosses last 2-3 hours on me which is quite good and there are no sticky, or tacky heavy feel like some gloss do.
Out of the three shades, my favourite is #206 – usually for lazy days where I just reach out for Fuchsia Oran for a quick once over as it is pigmented enough to wear it on its own.
Another close favourite is #19 – Rose Orfevre where I use this on top of all my pink lipsticks. As per my picture above, I applied a layer of YSL Rouge Pur in #49 and go over it with Gloss Volupte #19, can you see the shine? Makes my lips look so pretty if I may say so myself!
To be entirely honest, I am going through a lipstick/lip gloss moment as inspired by the latest “it” Korean drama “You Who Came from The Stars” , the main lead Gianna Jun aka Cheon Song Yi pulls off the most swoon worthy lip colour shades.
Here she is seen spotted wearing the infamous YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick in #52 Rosy Coral which has gone viral and sold out worldwide. Last I checked, people were willing to pay upwards of USD$120 to bag this lipstick. In the drama stills above, she also has YSL Gloss Volupte in #19 Rose Orfevre on top of her lipstick.
Now, if you could excuse me, Imma go hunt for the #52 Rosy Coral.
