BB Cream 101
I have previously talked about what BB cream is all about and what it does, you can read all about it on my earlier posts about them, link below. So I’ll keep it short and sweet on this post.

For those of you who asked what’s a BB cream, I thought I’d put together a list of some helpful links to read all about it. BB Cream is also known as Blemish Balm Cream originally designed for post-op patients.

  • BB cream can be tricky, sometimes it can be perfect for some people but not so great on others. Especially now there’s hundreds of brands out there that carries BB cream including MAC, Maybelline, Clinique and what not in Asia, you pretty much have to do heaps of research, testing and to find out what suits your skin tone best. To me sometimes it can be a case of hit or miss.
  • BB cream only look good on skin if you use a tiny amount of it, anything more it will have a reverse effect on the skin and won’t look natural.

*I have also used BRTC Whitening & Repairing BB Cream that I love but didn’t got around to reviewing it (I might in the future) and Naruko Narcissus Total Defence BB Cream Essence which I didn’t like as much and do not intend to review. My personal favourite is still between Skinfood, BRTC and Estee Lauder.

Tinted Moisturiser Fever

I have been thinking of tinted moisturiser alot lately. Even Zoë blogged about it here.

For the past four years, I have been using a combination of tinted moisturiser/BB cream* and have rarely touched foundation purely because I don’t like the caked feeling on my skin. In fact, lately I am having a moment and is not ‘feeling it’ for makeup. Uh oh, oh no! Hopefully this doesn’t last for too long.

Why I choose tinted moisturiser?

1) It is extremely easy to apply. No streaking, no cakey feeling, no blotchy skin.
2) Hydrates the skin (Yes!)
3) Gives a glowy, dewy, radiant finish (Hell Yes!)
4) Usually contains SPF (Sun protection is mucho important)
5) Sheer coverage
6) Cheap (Most of the time!)
7) Good for neck, cleavage areas too

While I know there’s foundation out in the market that delivers similar result, I still choose to refuse caking my skin with foundation and whatnot. A step less caking my pores is a good step less I’d say!

Take a look in the beauty market and you’ll spot tinted moisturiser in just about every brand out there big or small. I have no doubt trial and tested quite a few over the years especially since tinted moisturiser is all I use all year round.

Here are few of my favorites (BB creams not included/ in no particular order):

1) La Mer The SPF 18 Fluid Tint – This is my first tinted moisturiser. I used this throughout Uni days and up to this day; I’ll always have Fluid Tint by my beauty cabinet. Love, loves, loved it. This is my holy grail of tinted moisturisers I reckon because of how moisturising and dewy it makes my skin.

2) Benefit You Rebel Lite – This one has added vitamins in it. Coverage is very sheer and definitely good for better skin days. I routinely whip this out during summer like a clockwork.

3) Bobbi Brown SPF 15 Tinted Moisturiser – This range has by far the most shades to choose from for a tinted moisturiser and it delivers the most natural tint for my skin without looking like I had anything on.

4) N.V Perricone Active Tinted Moisturiser – I strongly recommend this one if you are looking for an anti-aging tinted moisturiser. This one works to minimise fine lines and wrinkles or to prevent it. Great for sensitive skin to cover redness/blotchiness as well.

Some other brands of tinted moisturisers I would recommend:

Laura Mercier, Stila, Clarins, Chanel, Kiehl’s, Jemma Kidd, Hissy Fit, Dermalogica, ELES, MD Skincare.

TIP: Choose a brand that you like their moisturising cream/product and go for their tinted range. This way you know their ingredients would be similar of the cream version that you like.

The year that was 2008

To be fair, 2008 hasn’t been an agreeable year for me. It was a year full of distress, anguish and disappointments. Had to jump through heaps of unnecessary hoops. Had to overcome quite a few traumatizing events for both me and le garçon.

Let’s recap some of the ups and downs on my blog in 2008:

Overall, it has been a long, stalling year. Despite everything, I am happy tough times are over. I learnt a lot during difficult times and is grateful for the experiences/things I have in life.

Goodbye 2008, I don’t miss you.
