This is us, at the event. Yaz is too cute in real life, just like all of her YouTube videos.
Read my first part of Hair Transformation with Barney Martin (sponsored by Pantene) here.
As I’ve promised, during my hair transformation I’ve demanded (or asked politely whichever way you’d choose to believe) Barney what’s the secret to curling hair, making curls last, curls that looks natural, shiny, down right to the products and tools to use.
Here are his tips and what he used to created the curls as seen in picture above:
- Star with clean fresh hair of course. (For my seriously lack of volume hair, he recommended me Pantene Sheer Volume Shampoo & Conditioner $8 each)
- Towel dry the hair and apply some Pantene Body Builder Mousse ($7) all over the crown area to help hold the hair. A small lump should cover the crown don’t go OTT on it
- Blow dry hair as usual with hairdryer and comb through to detangle
- Barney uses VS Sassoon Ultimate Salon Curler in his salon! Depending on your hair length; there’s 2 sizes to choose from – 19mm $49.95/32mm $59.95 . He used the 32 mm on my hair for a more natural airy curl look.
- Part hair into sections, grab a strand of hair and clip the ends with the tong and roll it upwards. Once you reach the top, hold it for a couple of seconds, gently release the tong while holding the hair and keeping it in a round curl on top of the head and pin it up. (Tip: While doing this make sure you don’t wrap the hair too tightly around the tong)
- Repeat with the rest of the hair and let it cool down for 5 – 10 minutes.
- Spray Pantene Body Builder Hairspray ($7) all over hair and remove all clips.
- Once hair is down gently comb through with your fingers and respray the hairspray to keep hair shiny and keeps style in place.
Here’s an image of the curling tong he used and said curling tong is also sitting happily next to my dressing table!
While I know alot of girls are big on straighteners in creating curls, I have always found it hard to manage. To me, it felt like it requires a degree to master the perfect curls. This is the reason why I choose curling tong over straighteners. However, Barney did mention not to go crazy with heat styling as they will all evitably damage hair. Limit yourself to 2-3 times a week max.
For an alternative way to create curls without damaging the hair as much as curling tong and straighteners will; Barney recommended hot rollers (something I’ve never tried and was excited about).
I have been using the VS Sassoon Ultimate Salon Setter ($89.95) for the past couple of weeks and I have to say I’m liking it. It’s easy to use, create curls for dummies (like me!), doesn’t burn your face/fingers like a tong/straightener would and is generally bit more gentle on your hair. Comes in various sized curler and a handy retra-cord system; I’m torn between hot rollers and tong at the moment!
To recreated the look at home from Step 5-8 and it only takes me 10 mins max to curl all my hair and another 10 mins to cool it off (apply makeup while you wait). Too easy!
*All products mentioned above were used during my hair transformation session except for the hot rollers. If you squint your eyes hard enough, you’ll be able to see the Pantene products that was used too.
Last week, the very generous girls at Pantene flew me to Sydney for a haircut at Barney Martin Hairdressing in Surry Hills. Yes, the very same Barney Martin who is also a Pantene expert and who happens to have worked with Drew Barrymore, Kate Moss, Sophie Dahl, John Galliano, French Vogue, British Vogue and countless runway shows.
This is me at Barney’s salon the before picture. I was given an ipad, latest magazines, herbal tea to sip, lollies, mint, chocolate and the most adorable Millie to play with while waiting for my transformation. I felt welcomed immediately.
Due to my hair being so long, it has gotten to the stage where I couldn’t be bothered to style it and even if I do, the style usually won’t hold for more than half a day. I was so ready to get the chop. So, we went for a shorter length.
Going, going, going.
Bye bye hair.
I must say, I was a little worried when the scissors touched my hair, worried if Barney was able to create the type of curls I’d like, worried that I might regret the cut and worried it might not look good and boy once I saw this in the mirror, all the worries evaporated into thin air.
My hair feels about ten tonnes lighter, easier to style without having the weight of my hair pulling it down and motivates me to style my hair more frequent because shorter length = faster styling time.
Stay tune for Part 2, with what type of products and curling tools and tips to create the perfect curl. Be sure not to miss this.
Miranda Kerr is in town to talk about the launch of her KORA skincare and Zoe Foster was the host for this event. Needless to say I was excited beyond words. Both women are my inspirations in very different ways. Zoe for her talent with words and Miranda for her body of course.

Over the weekend, we went to the Chris Rock’s No Apologies show. Incidentally, it was also his first show ever in Australia and it was a sold out show at Hisense arena (Previously known as the Vodafone arena.)

The Chris Rock show was opened by Mario Joyner. While not many people heard of him before (neither did we) but he was a hell of a comedian too. He was so hilarious and by the time he walked off the stage I was convinced to pay VIP tickets if he were ever to do a show here in Melbourne. I want to see more of that man.
Mario also acts in Everybody Hates Chris, the recent Bee Movie and a handful of TV shows.
We loved the show and the seats were right in the middle of the entire action. The show was our first stand-up ever and it was brilliant. Chris Rock’s expression was priceless and his accent was just plain hilarious. Funny thing his theme song is Lil’s Wayne’s Duffle bag boy…
I can’t say I was a Chris Rock fan before but I have steadily kept up with his movies (Esp: I Think I Love My Wife) and “Everybody Hates Chris” which he penned and produced.
His show ran a little more than one and a half hour and before we knew it, the show was over. We actually wanted it to go on a little longer. Regardless, we both left the arena with sore cheeks and a very happy face.
There it was Mario’s signature on Chris Rock’s book. I felt so bad after making him sign on that page. I was panicking and I was not thinking. However, there were not cameras allowed so there were no camera action.

Remember this awesome book that I was talking about? If you like beauty + chic lit you should read this. Not only is Zoe a great writer; she also did a good job by sprinkling bits and pieces of beauty advices/makeup tips, cult beauty product buys throughout the entire book.
So it is like reading a novel and beauty bible both at a same time. Anyways, I went to see her last Friday when she was in town and I was thrilled that she recognizes me and my blog. We spent some time chatting and it was totally awesome. By the end of the conversation, I turned and almost “bang” my head to a poster board right behind me feeling like a teenage girl just spotted her crush.
The excitement was hard to conceal for the rest of the day and “she is absolutely flawless” kept coming out of my mouth.
Yesterday, I saw Kenny in person of course.
Shane is probably best know as the janitor guy movie – Kenny.

Very polite, very genuine and noticeably cheeky guy. He even winked at me in full uniform while he was rehearsing. Shane is perhaps one of the friendliest celebrity that I have met.
Although, he’s got a very red face, from being sunburnt?
I can’t wait to watch him sing.
