Interview: Maria Hatzistefanis, Founder of Rodial Skincare

 

After spending years building her career in beauty journalism (one that included concurring the beauty editor position at Greek Vogue), Maria Hatzistefanis developed a luxury skincare brand in 1999, answering the demand to an alternative to the extremes – plastic surgery and injectables.

Combining scientific and natural skincare, Rodial is now stocked in more than 30 countries worldwide including Harrods, Harvey Nicholls and Henri Bendel. And now, Australians can finally purchase Rodial exclusively through Myer from 25th of October 2010 onwards.

The turning point for Rodial was sponsoring Oscar’s post party goodie bags back in 2006; after which the brand quickly developed a huge celebrity followings. To date, Maria counts Kate Bosworth, Beyonce, Nicole Richie, Scarlett Johannson, Kate Moss, Victoria Beckham, Angelina Jolie, Jessica Biel and the likes as Rodial’s celebrity fan base.

Couple of weeks ago, I was lucky enough to be the only blogger to have a one on one sit down breakfast interview with Maria. We chatted about her brand, skincare products and her inspiration through green tea, bircher muesli and fruit salads.

  • Did you know Rodial means pomegranate in Greek?
  • 11 years ago, pomegranate is almost unheard of as a skincare ingredient – Maria developed her skincare range with this signature ingredient due to it’s effectiveness with firming, tightening the skin.
