GHD: Pink GHD IV Styler

Each year, ghd PINK campaign helps to support the National Breast Cancer Foundation and this year is its 7th year running. Their limited edition pink stylers are my favourites and what a good excuse to buy the super pretty pink ghds while doing a good deed at the same time.

This year, the limited edition 2010 pink ghd IV styler comes in a sleek white gloss finish and vibrant pink plates and is inspired by delicate fairytale pink patterns. With beautiful pink floral design, complete with butterflies, I believe this is their prettiest pink ghd thus far.

The clever device also comes with universal voltage so for you jet-setting ladies, this must be music to your ears! In addition, the 2010 pink ghd also comes with a raffia roll out styler bag and a matching compact mirror that is currently happily sitting in my makeup bag.

$30 from every styler sold will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Last week, I also took the opportunity to pop a few question during ghd Expert Chat and here are my questions:

How to revitalise second day curled hair? Also, any ghd tips for growing out fringe without looking overtly done? My fringe length is almost touching my nose.- Valerie

And here was my response from the fabulous ghd educators Gillian and Sam:

Valerie – good questions! We recommend using ghd Creation Spray on dry hair prior to styling because this will give you longer lasting curls to begin with. The next day try running your fingers through the curls or lightly brush out the curls and perhaps put a few new curls in the top sections to freshen up the look. Then again apply some Creation Spray before finishing.

For the fringe, we’d recommend a side part with sweeping fringe which is a bit more natural than say Farrah Fawcett style flicks which can look overdone. Remember also to get your hairdresser to shape the fringe into your hair style while you’re growing it, so it looks the best it can during the growing out phase.

Winter Hair Savoirs!

Pantene Pro-V – All Day Smooth Light Weight Crème
(RRP AUD$6.99)

You see, I have a habit of washing my hair in the evenings and letting it dry on its own simply because even blow drying your hair is committing heat damage to the fragile strands. Only problem is when I wake up in the morning, my hair can look quite disheveled (not the sexy out of bed type more like lunatic don’t own a comb type).

This lightweight creme solves all that, just a very tiny bit of this liquidy gel-cream-ish goodness (and boy do they smell good!) rub between the palms and smooth over dry hair in the morning and viola! Hair is ready to take on the world. Did you know it also helps to shield hair from environmental damage? Sun, wind, rain, heater, air conditioner included!

Clairol Herbal Essences – Smooth Lovin’ None of Your Frizzness Serum
(RRP AUD$9.99)

Well, hello pump bottle packaging, I instantly like you already! This product I love when I have curls on. Simply because when I style my hair with curls they tend to look bit more frizzy and did anyone ever warn you second day curls can look more messy and awkward rather than cute, sexy romantic curls?

Smells like mandarin which makes me hungry! This baby is comes with anti-humidity technology and polishes curls instantly. Of course it also works with straight hair styles, I just prefer it to add shine to my curls. Again, work it on dry hair, pump half a pump onto your palms, rub between palms before scrunching through the mid lengths and end of hair.

TIP: Regardless of what hair styling/care products you use, ALWAYS rub between your palm to warm it up prior to applying onto your hair. Otherwise, you’ll end up with overtly greasy hair patch and trust me you don’t want that.

Pantene: Night Miracle Leave On Crème Serum

This is a guest post by
Melanie.

I’m the type of person who is constantly inflicting upon her hair all sorts of heat related damage, more often that not on a daily basis – blow drying, curling, straightening, curling again. So naturally, anything that offers to help me repair the damage I cause to my ever-so-neglected ends is greeted with open arms.

Enter Pantene Pro-V’s Night Miracle Leave on Crème Serum. A conditioning serum designed to work on your damaged hair while you sleep.

The premise is simple – before you go to bed, apply a few pumps to the mid lengths and ends of your hair, get some forty winks and then wake up to smoother, detangled ends. No need to worry about any residue on your pillow (or your hair) as the crème is meant to be absorbed into the core of the hair shaft.

What stood out to me about this offering from Pantene was essentially, the simplicity of it all. No more waiting in the shower for 3-5 minutes for your hair mask to get to work (which is generally the biggest deterrence for me), no need to rinse it out, just apply the lightweight formula and then forget about it. Too easy!

As far as results go with this one – well, it definitely smoothed my ends, which was noticeable after the first go. My hair didn’t feel weighed down in the morning, wasn’t lank or greasy (make sure to keep it away from the roots though) and there had been some detangling at work.
I am skeptical about how well it actually repairs any damage however. For that I think you need to call in the big guns – the intensive leave in treatments, the hair masques and of course, the regular trims which is the only surefire way to get rid of those pesky split ends.

If you’re the type who finds themselves hard pressed for time though, and you’re after a quick and easy albeit temporary solution, (which so happens to be under ten smackers) Pantene Pro-V’s Night Miracle Leave on Crème Serum would be of great benefit to damaged, stressed out ends.

Hair Transformation with Barney Martin Hairdressing Part 2

The proud Barney in the mirror and the proud owner of gorgeous hair – me!

Read my first part of Hair Transformation with Barney Martin (sponsored by Pantene) here.

Surprisingly everyone who has been properly introduced to my new hair, loves it. It’s either all my friends are pretty good lie or my new hair does really looks good and most importantly “suits” me.

As I’ve promised, during my hair transformation I’ve demanded (or asked politely whichever way you’d choose to believe) Barney what’s the secret to curling hair, making curls last, curls that looks natural, shiny, down right to the products and tools to use.

Here are his tips and what he used to created the curls as seen in picture above:

  1. Star with clean fresh hair of course. (For my seriously lack of volume hair, he recommended me Pantene Sheer Volume Shampoo & Conditioner $8 each)
  2. Towel dry the hair and apply some Pantene Body Builder Mousse ($7) all over the crown area to help hold the hair. A small lump should cover the crown don’t go OTT on it
  3. Blow dry hair as usual with hairdryer and comb through to detangle
  4. Barney uses VS Sassoon Ultimate Salon Curler in his salon! Depending on your hair length; there’s 2 sizes to choose from – 19mm $49.95/32mm $59.95 . He used the 32 mm on my hair for a more natural airy curl look.
  5. Part hair into sections, grab a strand of hair and clip the ends with the tong and roll it upwards. Once you reach the top, hold it for a couple of seconds, gently release the tong while holding the hair and keeping it in a round curl on top of the head and pin it up. (Tip: While doing this make sure you don’t wrap the hair too tightly around the tong)
  6. Repeat with the rest of the hair and let it cool down for 5 – 10 minutes.
  7. Spray Pantene Body Builder Hairspray ($7) all over hair and remove all clips.
  8. Once hair is down gently comb through with your fingers and respray the hairspray to keep hair shiny and keeps style in place.

I was honestly thrilled when Barney told me he is pro-tong rather than straighteners. If you follow me on twitter, you’d noticed that I’ve been on a hunt for the perfect tong to recreate perfect curls. Curling tongs is like a massive thing among runway hair stylist and celebrities because they often creates the most natural curls and are quick too! Want Gisele curls? Curling tong!

Here’s an image of the curling tong he used and said curling tong is also sitting happily next to my dressing table!

While I know alot of girls are big on straighteners in creating curls, I have always found it hard to manage. To me, it felt like it requires a degree to master the perfect curls. This is the reason why I choose curling tong over straighteners. However, Barney did mention not to go crazy with heat styling as they will all evitably damage hair. Limit yourself to 2-3 times a week max.

For an alternative way to create curls without damaging the hair as much as curling tong and straighteners will; Barney recommended hot rollers (something I’ve never tried and was excited about).

I have been using the VS Sassoon Ultimate Salon Setter ($89.95) for the past couple of weeks and I have to say I’m liking it. It’s easy to use, create curls for dummies (like me!), doesn’t burn your face/fingers like a tong/straightener would and is generally bit more gentle on your hair. Comes in various sized curler and a handy retra-cord system; I’m torn between hot rollers and tong at the moment!

To recreated the look at home from Step 5-8 and it only takes me 10 mins max to curl all my hair and another 10 mins to cool it off (apply makeup while you wait). Too easy!

*All products mentioned above were used during my hair transformation session except for the hot rollers. If you squint your eyes hard enough, you’ll be able to see the Pantene products that was used too.
