Today, we’ll talk a little bit about health rather than beauty. You see, I am a firm believer in moderation. I don’t believe in denying oneself from yummy food but should limit the intake by control.
Whether you are seeking to look your best for a special occasion, to get in shape or wanting to loose some excess kilos; you will have to be realistic. This is where Portion Perfection comes into the picture.
Portion Perfection is about an active lifestyle choice, it is about choosing smart food selection, putting less on the plate (research proven the more you put on your plate the more you eat) and some exercise is the best way to lose weight. While the exercise part isn’t my cup of tea, I do however love the idea of putting less on the plate and still be able to eat what I love to eat.
Portion Perfection is a visual weight control plan that shows you exactly the right amount to eat if you want to lose or maintain weight. It has hundreds of pictures showing popular packaged food, including almost every brand available in Australia.
The Portion Perfection plate and bowl will help you serve up the right amount of food your body needs. (And boy am I loving these smart tools in helping me limit my food consumption!)
- 30 mins of aerobic activity a day
- Get enough sleep
- Drink 2 litres of fluid per day
- Break up meals into 5 – 6 smaller ones (this helps to speed up metabolism)
- Increase fruit and vegetable intake (this we all know but oh so hard to follow through)
- Increase fibre intake (choose only wholegrain selections)
- Decrease fat intake (no more than 30 grams per day)
- Avoid late night snacks

I am a huge snack person and some of the recommended snacks in my 7 day meal plan includes apples, strawberries, paddle pop (fun!), mango, Arnotts snacks, Vitaweat biscuits, almonds, Weiss bar, etc. See I told you losing weight doesn’t HAVE to be torturous, limit amount of food portion is key!

The images from this post are my favourite ones. What are your’s?
This memoir depicts the journey of a young Jewish who strike it big in the stock exchange market and became multimillionaire in just a few short years. Well actually, there were little or close to none of his ‘path of success’ story but definitely chock full of scams, scandals, cheating, sex, drugs, insults, addictions and mockeries.
In addition, the book was filled with his self injections of ego by claiming how handsome he was, how smart he was, how rich he was and how capable of the things that he could do/run.
Nevertheless, it was a great read. It is always great to read about other people’s life. Especially famous/popular/rich ones. Why else do you think gossip magazines are selling like hot cakes? Apart from all those stock market lingo that was rather confusing and impossible to understand, I did enjoy the other bits. About his undying love for his wife, his undying love to suspect everyone he cross path with and his undying love to ruin things.
A story of a rising star and crashing badly is surprisingly refreshing and interesting. Bet you’ll be please to know that the movie is in the works. Out this 2010.

OMG I totally love this book. I am starting to wonder if I’m a man trapped in this body because I appreciate and love all the guy stuff. (Gaming, fishing, violence, gore, peeving, IT, etc.) This book further confirms my suspicion; I can totally relate to his memoir.
A parody of Elizabeth Gilbert’s memoir Eat, Pray, Love; Andrew Gottlieb’s globetrotting memoir is far more fun, adventurous, brash and raw all packed in 38 nifty chapters that are a breeze to read. Scored brownie points for being fast paced, none of the spiritual/ landscaping describing bullshit. Yes, he did whine but it was a good type of whine that I could totally relate.
Overall, this is one easy read that is hilarious and touching at times. While the ending was rather bullshit in a way perfectly panned out in the best possible way; who am I to question fate of God right? Things happen in the most miraculous ways. From this book I have learn to embrace life as it is and to appreciate each opportunity and do not ever forget to take a step back and evaluate life/situation.
Watch out for this one. A movie’s in the oven as we speak.

Initially, I was very excited with this book because Rae Morris is sort of like the top makeup artist in the Australia industry. I watch her makeup how-to videos at Primped and have heard many good things about here. Having worked in international and local scenes I was expecting fantastic or secret tips for makeup but alas, I was hugely disappointed with this book and here’s why:
- Sad to say her book is more for ‘white’ features. Ethnicity groups play a very small and almost missable section in this.
- Makeup how-tos are mainly too advance/too done up for everyday wear. Definitely for pros. Translation = not suitable for the other 90% of us who don’t wear 10 colours + shimmers on our lids on a daily basis.
- Lack of product recommendation. (I am a sucker for this!)
- The tips that she provided in her book were all very text book stuff. Meaning all beauty conscious people would have already known such. (Eg: Cetaphil + Bicarb as scrub!)
- Overall, I find this book rather vague even with the step by step pictures provided.
One thing though, she managed to put Miranda Kerr‘s ugly picture (pre-makeup of course!) on the book and here I was thinking that woman never takes a bad shot.
This book is definitely for makeup artists who does makeup shows as a living. Not recommended is you are getting this book for general makeup advices/tips.
- This is by far the best Bobbi Brown beauty book because everyone can find something informative in this book.
- Covers all ethnicity which is great because it is so rare to find Asian makeup featuring in an International published beauty book.
- Fantastic easy-to-follow step by step picture guide.
- Less word more pictures throughout the book. (Yay!)
- Good introduction of basic makeup requirements, breaking down the 101 on BB brushes.
- Fool proof makeup that even makeup amateur like me find it extremely valuable.
- Very good chapter on ‘contouring & high-lightning’.
- Excellent product recommendations. I am totally into Bobbi Brown makeup/skincare now. (Vulnerable customer I know!)
What makes me really happy with this book is that I find the techniques are extremely easy to follow and to replicate. It was all about enhancing the features instead of masking it.
Also, keep an eye for their limited edition Bright Eye Palette (available only from DJ) it is absolutely gorgeous!

I don’t want to be bias but I must say Wally Lamb is and will definitely be my favorite writer of all time. Period.
His novels are plain addictive. The plots are usually beautifully written in such an engaging moving manner only very few authors can communicate this way. This novel is Wally’s debut novel published more than 10 years ago. This is also the one and only novel that Wally writes with a unconventional female protagonist leading the story.
A story about a trouble kid growing up having to go through tough times like broken family, being bullied, witnessing her mother’s nervous breakdown, having to deal with a repressive nanna, raped, obesity, obsession, love, self-loathing, isolation, attempts suicide, mental institution and suffering a fail marriage herself.
This entire novel circles around the issue of ‘self-esteem’ and forgiveness that troubled the disturbed Dolores. In the end, I find this book very healing. In such a way, I am sure many of us can relate and to ponder, what ifs.
There are astonishingly important lessons that can be uncovered in this book. Lessons for all of us.
